Why Cyclocross?
Cyclocross is a unique and compelling style of bicycle racing that might be best described as a cross between road biking, mountain biking and steeplechase. It is endlessly fun for the cyclist and arguably just as fun for the spectators. There is something about looking on while smiling, sweating competitors heave their bikes over their shoulders to more efficiently scale a hill or navigate a curve. The mount and dismount technique is part science, part art, and all coordination. Creativity, a solid mind game, endurance, strength and of an epic sense of humor make for a great cyclocross competitor. The unpredictable nature of an all terrain course and the wide open spaces allow for great viewing, cheering and cow bell ringing. A sand obstacle, tight chicanes, planks, run ups, hills or maybe even a pumpkin or two keep riders on their pedals. Here at Sioux Falls Bike Racing, we offer a wide variety of levels of competition. There is something for everyone. Whether it is your first race or you have enjoyed competition on a national scale, the comradery, fun environment and great courses will keep you coming back. Some competitors find an occasional beer hand up to be helpful while racing and others stick with more traditional forms of sport hydration and fuel. With tires on the grass, dirt, sand, or even rock for around 30-60 minutes, depending on the level of competition and type of event, the approaches to a great race are as varied as the racers. Even the juniors and kids racers won't pass up the chance to rock the cyclocross course. Fun is the common thread woven between each race and racer. The CX (Cyclocross) season is not known for great weather but that is easily balanced by the gorgeous autumn scenery, friendly faces and the occasional food truck. The group starts together, with call ups to ensure a smooth race and race the circuit to complete the required laps in as little time as possible. Because of the varied nature of this sport, it is a great option for athletes as their primary sport or as an engaging option between road, gravel, mountain and other cycling disciplines. |
